My session at the Future Music Camp was 2011 in the Pop Academy in Mannheim this somewhat unwieldy title: “A history of listening to music on the computer.” I remembered a shorter and better description, so now the world must live with it. again yesterday in the most wonderful Wiesbaden been Caligari cinema and “Rock Steady – The Roots Of Reggae” seen a musical journey to Jamaica of the sixties, when rock steady had its heyday between ska and reggae and a short, but global and took lasting triumphant. Forty years later met Rocksteady greats like Stranger Cole, Dawn Penn, Derrick Morgan, Ernest Ranglin, Hopetown Lewis, Judy Mowatt, Sly Dunbar and many more into a rock-steady revival after the obvious example of Buena Vista Social Club. From Stockholm Amalia sends out its Future Funk vibes in the world. She has been with Jazzanova, Cinematic Orchestra and the last Opolopo – worked – also from Sweden. The latter has also produced her debut album kind of slave. Then there are altogether 15 varied numbers soulful disco, broken beat radio-floor filler and killer tunes with a strong influence of the Eighties-Funk. (more…)
